ISS SSTV Event of February 15-17 2019

I saw on the NFARL club mailing list that there was to be a repeat of the ISS SSTV event from the previous weekend. Since I already had a setup for VHF ready to go I decided to install the software recommended by the email author and see what I could decode with my minimal setup.

The hardware used for this is rather basic: a Icom IC-208h paired with a Diamond X-50 4.5dB gain vertical antenna in my attic. The soundcard interface is a Signalink USB.

The software for my experiment is RX-SSTV and is fairly easy to setup and use. Even better it does automatic detection of the SSTV signals and saves the images once decoded. Perfect to leave running while I’m sleeping!

Here is the decode from the first pass that I copied, not much to see, but you can just make out the callsign in the image:

sstv-decode-1

And here are the decodes from the next pass which resulted in much better decodes.

sstv-decode-2sstv-decode-3

I still have the radio and software running and am hopeful I can get a full decode before the event wraps up tomorrow.
